Statera Energy is pleased that planning consent has been granted for the East Claydon battery energy storage system (BESS).
Once operational, the facility will mark a significant milestone in the development of Britain’s flexible energy infrastructure. The East Claydon site will play an important role in tackling the UK’s clean energy challenge. By storing surplus renewable electricity during periods of high generation, and releasing it when demand peaks, the project will help stabilise the grid, support the integration of intermittent wind and solar power, and reduce reliance on fossil-fuels. This capability directly contributes to the UK’s ambition to achieve a net zero electricity system by 2035 and economy-wide net zero by 2050.
